dental catBad breath is not a sign of good health in pets! Dental care is a very important part of keeping your pet healthy. Dental disease is one of the most common health problem in dogs and cats. Most pets over the age of 3 have some form of dental disease. Good dental care for your pet will help prevent gingivitis, periodontitis, tooth loss, potential infection to other organ systems and pain.

  • Evaluation of each tooth for evidence of mobility, fractures, malocclusion and periodontal disease
  • Professional ultrasonic scaling to clean and remove tartar and plaque from the teeth and under the gum line
  • High-speed polishing with a fluoride paste to return the enamel to a smooth surface less conducive to accumulating plaque

General dentistry requires your pet to be under anesthesia for the procedure. We perform full physical screenings and blood work prior to surgical procedures to ensure that your pet is a good candidate for anesthesia. We also use pain management techniques that are appropriate for your pet’s age, breed, and current health status. All animals that undergo surgery have their blood pressure, heart rate, rhythm, and blood oxygen levels monitored by a specially designated veterinary technician. Most pets go home the same day as the dental procedure.

At Home Dental Care for your Dog or Cat

Brushing your dog AND cat’s teeth every day will reduce or eliminate plaque buildup. Plaque, which is an accumulation of bacteria, will progress to periodontitis, which is characterized by pockets of chronic infection, oral pain, and severe infections. Left untreated, it will eventually loosen and destroy the tooth and possibly lead to bone loss.

Brushing your pet’s teeth at the same time each day with a pet toothpaste (do not use human toothpaste) and a brushing device (toothbrush, finger brush, gauze on your finger, etc.) is the most effective means of removing plaque from your pet’s teeth.
